All-On-X Dental Implants Post Operation Dietary Restrictions

It is vital that a strict no-chew diet is followed for 6 weeks after your All On X Implant Supported Full Arch Bridge surgery to allow the newly placed implants time to heal properly. Prior to this 6-week mark, your healing body will be at its most at-risk state for implant failure if instructions are not carefully followed. The general rule of thumb should be, if your teeth must come together to bite or chew into something, it should NOT be eaten – even if it seems like a “soft” food. Only foods that have been pureed or blenderized or can be easily mashed down with a fork and simply swallowed without chewing are allowed. Some suggestions: Day 1 – Clear Liquids (see through but not necessarily colorless)
  • Clear broths (chicken broth, miso soup with no additives besides the liquid)
  • Clear juice or sports drinks (avoid anything acidic like lemonade for the first few days)
  • Jello
  • Freeze pops or popsicles (do not bite into these, allow them to melt in your mouth)
  • NO carbonated beverages (sodas, beers, sparkling water, anything with fizz)
Day 2 – Dairy Products
  • Shakes, smoothies, protein drinks
  • Yogurts, puddings, ice cream
  • NO additives (seeds/berries, nuts, granola, etc.)
Day 3 to the end of Week 6 – Soft, No-Chew Foods
  • Foods the consistency of mashed potatoes, poi, scrambled eggs, soft tofu
  • Blended soups or stews
  • Really soft rotisserie chicken or fish that can be broken down into small pieces, put into mouth without chewing, and swallowed
  • NO crunchy foods (chips, cookies, salads, bacon, etc.)
  • NO chewy foods (bread/tortillas, chewing gum, french fries/potato wedges, etc.)
  • NO foods that require your teeth to come together (sandwiches, meatloaf, etc.)
If you are unsure about whether a food is allowed, it is probably best to stay away from it until you are able to ask someone from our surgical staff to confirm. We recommend that you review your personal calendar ahead of time to see whether you have any upcoming events that may be affected by these dietary restrictions, and plan accordingly. Allow yourself enough time to heal prior to the event. Not following this diet could result in implant failure or fracturing of the temporary hybrid prosthesis which will result in additional fees for repairs.
